Iran’s energy sector will require an investment of $150 billion over the next five years, according to Petroleum Ministry Director General of Strategic Planning, Saied Qavampur. Sputnik quotes him as saying: “In the meantime, the private sector and foreign investors are due to fund 100 billion dollars of the projects. TEHRAN - The International Debt Statistics by the World Bank indicates there has been a fall of $1.511 billion in Iran’s external debt to $5.495 billion in 2014 from $7.006 billion in 2013. Out of a total of $5.495 billion external debt in the year, more than $3.042 billion and $486 billion are accounted for by long-term and short-term external debts, respectively. Moreover, of the debt, $1.967 billion is explained by Iran’s debts to the International Monetary Fund. This amount of external debt has cost the country $33-million interest payments to creditors in the year, amounting to $350 million in a five-year extension, starting from 2010. Further, according to the report, Iran’s external debt has fallen to a downward trajectory over the past five years, from $20.03 billion in 2010 to $5.495 billion in 2014, down 72 percent. However, there is one bearish dimension to the report, where inflows to Iran have plummeted to $2.1 billion in 2014 compared to $3 billion in 2013, down 30 percent. ...
Iran is expected to purchase 450 new airplanes over the next five years – 400 mainline (150 widebody), and 50 regional (mostly turboprops). The global aerospace industry is set to witness an order bonanza not seen since the fall of the Soviet Union, as the landmark nuclear deal between Iran and Western powers is set to allow Iranian airlines to order modern aircraft. Due to economic sanctions, Iranian carriers have been restricted to flying second- and third-hand aircrafts that are at least 20-30 years old. Iran has a well-developed air travel market. There are currently 13 passenger airlines in Iran, as well as 51 airports with scheduled commercial service. Total airport traffic in Iran in 2014 was estimated around 50 million passengers. ...
